WOW! We wrapped up 2025 on a high note at the Longview Arboretum and Nature Center with the debut of our inaugural holiday event, “Bright! – A Season of Lights.” This magical new tradition welcomed nearly 3,000 visitors from across East Texas, northwest Louisiana, southern Arkansas, and even a few neighboring states. Families and friends gathered to stroll along illuminated garden paths, surrounded by twinkling lights and festive décor, while enjoying seasonal music performed by talented local artists. Guests warmed up with hot chocolate, shared holiday cheer, and delighted children by visiting with Santa Claus in a setting that truly captured the spirit of the season. The overwhelming community response confirmed what we hoped all along — Bright! is here to stay.
As we move into 2026, the Arboretum is already buzzing with activity and preparing for another year filled with growth, learning, and celebration. We kicked off January with a major planting effort, installing more than 6,500 bulbs throughout the grounds with the help of the dedicated Gregg County Master Gardeners. Thanks to their expertise and volunteer spirit, visitors can look forward to a stunning spring display of tulips and daffodils beginning in late February and continuing through mid-March. These vibrant blooms will transform the Arboretum into a colorful welcome to the new season and offer the perfect backdrop for photos, walks, and moments of reflection.
Education and community engagement continue to be central to our mission, and one of the highlights this spring is our Lunch and Learn series, presented in partnership with the Gregg County Master Gardeners. These free, monthly workshops are held at the Arboretum from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and are open to the public. Each session focuses on a different gardening or nature-related topic, offering practical tips and expert insights for gardeners of all skill levels. Participants are encouraged to bring their own lunch and enjoy a relaxed, informative midday break in a beautiful natural setting. A full list of topics and dates can be found at www.longviewarboretum.org.
Families will also have plenty to look forward to this spring. On March 27 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Arboretum will host Princess in the Gardens, a whimsical evening where children can meet their favorite princesses and superheroes in person. Guests will have the opportunity to visit with these beloved characters, take photos, and enjoy an unforgettable experience in the gardens. This event is designed to spark imagination and create magical memories for children of all ages.
April brings the return of two beloved community favorites. Our Music in the Garden Concert Series will once again feature a different local band every Thursday evening in April from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. These concerts invite guests to relax, unwind, and enjoy live music under the open sky.
